iPhone 3G Logic Board- Repair or Not?
Hello friends, I just got an Apple iPhone 3G, with 32 GB memory capacity. I purchased it from one my relative. As it is a second hand set, but it is only few months old. I have checked that there is no problem in it but except with the logic board. The board is physically damaged. The metal casing that covers main components of the iPhone has got distorted. The flash clip is bent slightly due to some physical impact. Is it possible to get it repaired by any means. Please help me.

Sorry to hear about your iPhone 3G. I wonder how the logic board got damaged. Ok, here are some of the steps that can help you to analyze the damage. Remove two ##00 screws from the dock connector end of the phone. Now pull out the metal handle from suction cup. When you dismantle the iPhone be careful not to damage or detach the delicate cables below the display and connected to the board. There is a rubber gasket that holds the display. If you apply little force then it can be easily detached. The display assembly is connected with number of thin cables, that can break, if you don’t remove it carefully.

Once you have completely dismantled your iPhone, you can check for the percentage of damage that has occurred to its internal components. Check if there is any damage to the display assembly. If the display assembly is also damaged, then don’t try to remove it. It might completely destroy. The display assembly and the logic board is connected with the help of three ribbon cables. Be cautious while pulling the display assembly from the logic board. Do not pull it until and unless all the connectors are loosen.

If you feel like you won’t be able to fix the problem then stop messing with it. Just gather all the components and assemble the phone. Then send it to the Apple support center and see if they can repair the logic board. If they say that they can repair it is good news for you. Else if it is needed to be replaced with the new one, then it would be too expensive for you. You would also not like to spend so much for the second hand phone. If you do not have any knowledge about the components and hardware of iPhone , then don’t try to open it.
Re: iPhone 3G Logic Board- Repair or Not?
I unscrewed the iPhone GS and dismantled it to find out the damage to the Logic board. I found that the board was warped and physically damaged. There were bunch of cables between the display assembly and board that connected each other. The Toshiba flash clip was also slightly bent. I tried to detach the display assembly from the logic board but found that the display screen would break if I detach it. So I had to take it to the service center for repair. After analyzing the damage, they told me that the logic board needs replacement. it is very costly so i have decided that I am not going to spend any more.
