I had been using Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q894 wide screen laptop which is running on the Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit operating system. Recently I came to know that I was unable to use my function key which was there on the keyboard. I am not able to use shortcut keys from the keyboard. After much try I was unable to open application programs such as media player, display utilities and so on through function keys. Can anyone give suggestions to overcome this problem?
Check on your display screen when you press the function key tab from your keyboard. If it does not display anything on your screen then try following instruction to check whether it is working or not:
1. Click on start
2. Go to run
3. Type flash
4. Check for the file restart flash cards or settings for flash card
5. Open restart flash cards
6. Again click on start
7. Go to run
8. Type flash
9. Now open settings for flash cards
10. If it is disable then unchecked on disable all functions key
11. Click on apply
12. Click on OK
13. Now, try reboot your laptop
You can try downloading Toshiba value added package from the internet. You can search it on any of your search engine where you just need to download a file save it into your hard disk. After downloading open it from the path you had saved it. Double click on it and run the program. It will ask you for administrator username and password. After installing this program you will be require to reboot your system. I hope your laptop function keys are working fine now.
For different issues related to the function key you can try downloading user guide where you can get to know various issues related to your hardware and try updating it as mentioned in it. if the above mentioned solutions worked out for then check for latest updates available for it from the internet. For this you need to follow the instructions given below:
1. Click on start
2. Go to all programs
3. Go to windows update
4. Click on check for updates
You can now carry on various updates required to be installed on your system. Most importantly do notice which updates you are going to install on your system as it should not affect your Toshiba drivers and utilities.
