re: Gateway 6728 freezes
Am sure its the problem of operating system and not of any hardware. BTW, which operating system are you using ? And as you said "It also checks asks to check my disk drives which always turns out ok", if you are using Vista than it's likely that Vista will require SATA drivers to be loaded in order to see the hard drive. Make sure your drivers are updated. Or alternatively, download a diagnostic software, probably Advanced Windows Care 2, to find out what the exact problem is.

re: Gateway 6728 freezes
You are correct, I do have Vista Windows 7....I tried to see if I could update my drivers but I always get, the drivers are already updated..when I go into my device manager ;) Can I download this SATA thingy?? hehehe..

re: Gateway 6728 freezes
yes, also i will suggest you to download Advanced Windows Care 2 and run it to get the exact cause of the problem so that you can work on the same. Once you will get the problem, reply here to get the proper solution. you can download Advanced Windows Care 2 from here.

Re: Gateway 6728 freezes
Can you tell us that does it freezes ONLY when you are browsing websites? Or ONLY when you are trying to run some movie / games / specific software? Can you touch the bottom of laptop, does it fees very hot at that time because if it does then it simply means that your laptop is getting overheated and you will need some coolant to cool it down. You would also try to reinstall the OS if it hadnt been done from past year or so?

Re: Gateway 6728 freezes
Hi Einstein:
Sometimes I don't even get to browse before it starts to freeze, I'm on it right now and I never know when its going to freeze...it is warm underneath, but I don't think this is the problem for some reason, I have no idea when the OS was last installed...I know sometimes when it goes to search for a website it just gets stuck and says waiting on cache, I've cleaned files, defragged everything....I thought it may have been the hardware, but when I go check hardware had 0 errors....so fustrating, this just happened out of the blue, I know I am destroying my computer since I have to keep shutting it down the wrong way...HELP! lol
Melissa
P.S. is there anyway one you guys can do remote operation?? lol:crybaby:

Re: Gateway 6728 freezes
I have here with me a work around just can hope that it will work for you there. Do one thing go to the Serach Box and type RUN there and once you see the run windows then type msconfig and hit the Enter key there. Now you will be required to go to the Services tab and make a click on Hide All Microsoft Services box; you will be able to see it at the bottom of the screen. See if you can find any change in the display on your screen. After this you will have to click on Disable All button and you will see the same at the bottom right; please make sure that you untick that option there. Once again you will have to navigate to Startup tab and select Disable All option there. Now select Apply and Restart option then. Reboot the system and I am sure that after the system will get booted you will have no issues any longer. At the start you will see a window on that window select the Do not show this message option there.
