Fastest processor for Dell Dimension 4550
I have got a Dell desktop system and my model is Dimension 4550, my system is been quite old now and has currently installed intel Pentium iv processor. I am looking to upgrade the cpu on my Dell computer but I am a little puzzled as to what sort of processor I can upgrade to. It at present has a 2.4ghz P4 cpu with the 533mhz bus and has 478 pins as far as Right now I am stuck at northwood processors that has the 533mhz bus , now I want my processor ot be replaced with such a processor that makes my system the fastest , so please suggest me a processor that is really fast and increase the performance.
Re: Fastest processor for Dell Dimension 4550
Yes you can definitely do it , but before that you will have to check a lot of things , then on the basis your BIOS version, a 2.8/3.0 would be the accuarate 478 processor your 845PE would maintain. Your trapped with a very old chipset supporting 4 x AGP video card and work on more than 300 mhz and a RAM. Equivalent to 512 MB . I would not spend much time if I was in your place
Re: Fastest processor for Dell Dimension 4550
Well, If you ask my opinion do not really do any such major change with the computer that would merit a brand new system . With all the application and updates and stuffed software that come around over the last few years, you will need a small promote to make things a little more snappier. According to me simplest way clearly is to put in the faster processor and/or add the highest ram. I by now have 1gb of ram in my system so the only other thing is the processor change .
Re: Fastest processor for Dell Dimension 4550
I checked the Dell system specifications your system is 2.8 and 3.06 compatible. These a 800mhz fsb capable processors. Like I I have told , you may have to upgrade to the newest BIOS version to hold the processors, clearly I do not know that for positive. I am not sure if the 845 chains with Prescott processors. It is s getting hard to position a Northwood, the 478 is very old. I have a total 3.0 ghz Northwood P4 800mhz fsb with an ABIT 478 MB and a GB of Kingston PC3200 installed in my cabinet. My cabinet has a 9200 ATI radeon, 80Gb WD IDE improved Hard drive it also has a DVD burner, and floppy drive, windows XP installed. The computer runs perfect. I would put up for sale it to anyone at the rate of 160
Re: Fastest processor for Dell Dimension 4550
The 2.8 and 3.06 Ghz CPUs in query are both 533 bus processors. unluckily, 800fsb CPUs are not well-matched with your dimension system . They also do not matched well with Prescott-based Pentium IV and Celeron Ds on the 533fsb, due to Dell will never updating the BIOS and I do not think it offer this support. It is regretting to say , but you are trapped with 533bus P4s likely be finest to just be cost saving , as the improving step from a 2.4B to a 2.8B is logically irrelevant.
