How I can open dat file in MAC operating system
I recently purchased a new imac g5 and I was using the window from many times. So I am totally new to use the Mac operating system. I am facing the problem to open dat file. I need to open a file called as "AllGB18030-PinYinPlugin.dat". Before I have installed a program known as VLC, it work to play the audio as well as the video on the system and the entire dat file will open by this program and VLC is for used for the movies. So what program is Mac originally support .dat? Please help me out from this problem.

The .dat file can be anything, what kind of file exactly is this? The point is that many such, programs use these files with the extension of ".dat" file and every implementation is different. I have seen plain text the .dat files, binary .dat files, and totally strange .dat files, each with an exclusive format.

Try to do these steps to solve this
- Create a copy of your any .dat file somewhere on your desktop.
- Modify the extension of the copied file, create it, instead of ".dat", ".jpg" or ".txt" or just play with the file extensions.
- Attempt to open the renamed file with any of your application either it will be the - Acrobat, Word, Internet Browsers, Photoshop etc.
