Re: installed a new hard drive, getting a question mark screen
I think you should try booting from the gray iMac OS 9 and OS 10 restore CDs. Or you can go to boot via target USB to an old ibook. The file folder are same for the new drive after format your new drive install the operating system to it. I think is not such things like Targeting USB. You should try formatting you system.
Re: installed a new hard drive, getting a question mark screen
There is some problem with your installation of the hard drive. I think you should check it out again and install it again. I guess doing this might be able to get the desired solution. After installing the hard drive boot your hard drive with the installing disc. This will help you to sort out the problem.
Re: installed a new hard drive, getting a question mark screen
It happens due to the hard drive freezes which causes to the component contraction.Well it happens only in two conditions
- A platter might be stuck on the spindle.
- The read and write head's arm mechanics may be become immobile.
So check out for this.
Re: installed a new hard drive, getting a question mark screen
You should try booting from system restore disk. After booting the system Restore your system as the system folder is. If restore cannot find the hard disk then run the disk utility. It will Initialize your hard drive and will reinstall all the hard disk drivers. After running this disk utility you can restore the system. But you need to store your all the data to another a hard disk because it will wipe your all data.
Re: installed a new hard drive, getting a question mark screen
As you are getting a question mark on the screen. It means that the system is not getting the startup disk. This means that your hard drive has gone messed up with something. I think if it’s got messed up then you need to reinstall a new MAC operating system to it. Try doing this, this may sort out your problem.
