Hotmail UDP Port 137

Hi all,

For some reason our users have stopped being able to use their hotmail account properly. Logging in is fine but they can't log out properly and clicking on any email doesn't bring up the actual email. We also get this message at the top of the screen in a yellow banner..

Please refresh your browser window. When you access your Windows Live Hotmail account from more than one computer, we ask you to sign in again to help keep your account private and secure.

From our firewall logs, it seems that UDP port 137 is being blocked when anyone tries to use hotmail. I can allow that port through the router but I'm just wondering, before i do, why has this only started happening in the last few months. Does anyone have any idea?

In my case I had use POP2 port 110 which has allowed me to log in my hotmail account. If possible then try to allow the TCP server so that you can get direct access to your account. UDP ports 137, 138 and 139 are used in the case of resource sharing in Windows operating systems. Then the station establishes a TCP connection to the server machine using TCP port 139.
