WebDAV stands for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning essentially adds functionality to write and lock the HTTP protocol. All the advantages of HTTP remain available. Unlike FTP, WebDAV provides the ability to easily secure connections like HTTPS and there is no potential problem with firewalls. It is nice a tool but you might need to get some good tutorial on the same.

WebDAV is a series of extensions to HTTP (S) that allows a web server to the appearance of a conventional network drive. With WebDAV, the user of QNAP NAS can get remote access to files shared by HTTP / HTTPS. WebDAV clients are native to Windows XP / Vista, Mac OS X, etc. You can simply mount the network drives (web files) from one of these operating systems to one or several share folders on the NAS.

A WebDave has the ability to use AES encryption SSL 256-bit. It can bypass firewalls and proxies. So that makes this a lot useful. It offers faster than Microsoft Networking (SMB / CIFS) over VPN. There are some very easy step to configure file sharing over WebDAV. Before you start, go to Network > Web Server. Select the web server and support WebDAV. You must then configure the WebDAV access rights for each share folder.
Re: WebDAV Web Folders in Windows Explorer Windows 7
For the folders which you are going to add in WebDAV you will need to configure permission for each of it. For that you will need to go in Manage permissions > File sharing and then click on WebDAV Access Control in the Action column, and set access rights for this WebDAV folder. The access rights will be applied to all users authorized to access this file sharing via WebDAV. The users share the same configuration access rights.
