Converting MKV to M4V

Hello,
Format .mkv unfortunately (well good for quality but not what I want to do). It can be read on the mac with VLC or Quicktime, but I wish I could play it on my iPad. I seek to convert the file. So I try with what I normally used: iSquint. But it does not recognize .mkv. As for QuickTime, of course I try, but this time myself out of more than 150 hours it seems. So I'd like to know if you know a mac conversion software that supports .mkv to a format iTunes without loss of quality. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Even i am trying to do the same. There is a problem with Quicktime slow is that sometimes the file does not complete successfully. It is then not back up or put into iTunes. I just found "iPad Aiseesoft Video Converter". One of the things where they look like viruses for the PC. So to convert a .mkv to 377Mb (5min48s) the size / quality 1080p format iTunes for iPad (720p max) it took less than 8 minutes (set at 80% capacity most of the computer). The quality is there, then "only" 720p (115MB here). So "iPad Aiseesoft Video Converter" works well.
