Motherboard to unlock Phenom II 555BE?
Hello.
I plan to buy a PC with this configuration, if I am not sure which motherboard I should choose. The combo memory must be able to unlock the four cores and over clock from 3.6 to 3.8 GHz. Maybe it requires a BIOS update for it. I read some of unlocking / over clocking change / stability with updated BIOS. Thus, it should be able to update the BIOS too. If the combo of memory has three USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps, how much more it will cost. If the difference is a bit, then I will go. If it is too expensive, so I will do without it.
Also, I am confused about RAM. There are different RAM 1333/1600MHz etc. Since I intend Over clock to 3.6/3.8GHz which RAM should I get.
Also, if you think something can be added / removed / changed configuration, then I will appreciate your input.
AMD Phenom II 555BE
4GB DDR3 (1333/1600?) RAM
1GB 5770 Graphics
500GB Samsung SpinPoint F3
24x SATA DVD Writer
How many Watts PSU will be required for Over clocking?
Re: Motherboard to unlock Phenom II 555BE?
Please remember there is no guarantee that you will receive the 4-core chip running or will over clock on your expectations.
While the odds seem to be well, be prepared to live is what you get or find another chip.
Make sure you have 710 or 750 South bridge any Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or known MB should be able to do
Re: Motherboard to unlock Phenom II 555BE?
I think that Asus M4A785TD EVO-V $ 100 is the motherboard that suits me. As I am not playing games, I decided to save $ 200 by removing HD 5770 GPU and memory has been the combo HD 4200 IGP with 128 MB shared, expandable to 512 MB shared, so it should be able to play videos of 1920x1080 resolution (?) Anyone has experience with this combo memory? In addition, how Asus combo memory in general? Are they worth buying?
Re: Motherboard to unlock Phenom II 555BE?
I think other contender is Gigabyte GA-MA785GT UD3H-$ 95, the only difference I see is that it has a single PCIe slot, so I give a preference Asus.
But I suggest you go ahead, for Asus V-M4A785TD EVO or you can wait for better mobo that is in terms of price and / or motherboard? It should be able to release cores, overclocking to 3.6 GHz and have a video board.
Re: Motherboard to unlock Phenom II 555BE?
I bought two different motherboards to try and unblock an X2 BE 555 this week. The first board I tested was a MSI 785GM-E51. I could not manage to boot while running on four cores. The same result trying to run on the kernel fourth on an X3, I played with. The max stable overclock I could get on the cooling rods was 3.9GHz with MSI. Then I tried a Gigabyte GA-MA785-TU-UD2, and was able to send and load Windows midway with four cores unlocked. The max overclock stable 4Ghz has 2 cores. I was able to load Windows to 4.2GHz, but it was not stable. Perhaps a better cooling and it would be. I will get another 555 and try my luck once more.
