False Positive?: soundman.exe: Trojan.Downloader
Hello people, Recently I formatted my computer and installed fresh copy of Windows on the computer. After installation of the operating system, as a precautionary step, I installed ClamWin free antivirus on the computer. After installation of the antivirus, I started the full system scan option. The procedure started and indicated that the file at the particular location is infected. C:\WINDOWS\system32\SOUNDMAN.EXE with a Trojan downloader. I think it is a false positive detection as soundman.exe is a system file. So if anybody of you is facing similar problems then suggest some solution. Any help is highly appreciated.
Re: False Positive?: soundman.exe: Trojan.Downloader
As the file which is indicated as an infected file is a system file it is possible that the detection is false positive. I would suggest that you install some other updated antivirus and scan the system again. Check if the other antivirus also detects the system file as infected or not. If the system file has traces of the virus then it will be detected by other antivirus also. Try and repair the infected files and then see if the problem is solved.
Re: False Positive?: soundman.exe: Trojan.Downloader
The files of the operating systems are more likely to get infected by the virus and hence it is possible that the Soundman.exe is infected by some virus. As the Clamwin is detecting the file as a threat, try to repair or quarantine the file using Clamwin and see if the threat is resolved. You can also delete the file and replace the file from some other computer. Once the file is replaced, you will not face the same problem again.
Re: False Positive?: soundman.exe: Trojan.Downloader
As the file is infected with a Trojan, it cant be cured using the Antivirus which you are using. You will have to download trojan removing tool on the computer to remove the virus from the computer. Search for the trojan removal tool with the virus name online and download the tool. Install the trojan removing tool and start the computer in safe mode. Start the utility in the safe mode and remove all the threats that are encountered. After removing all the threats, reboot the system in normal mode. Scan the system with the Antivirus and see if the file is detected again or not.
Re: False Positive?: soundman.exe: Trojan.Downloader
I am using the same antivirus on my system and it detects the same file as a Trojan which is not true. It is a system file which is associated to the sound drivers of the computer. It is a false positive detection. You will have to report this file as a false positive threat on the official website of the computer. Go to official website and then upload the file which the antivirus is showing as infected. If the file is really infected, clamwin support will provide solution for it or else it will be reported as safe file.

Lot of websites provide free online scan support which can be used to detect and remove virus which the resident antivirus is incapable of. The websites like Mcaffee and Kaspersky provide free online scan support facility which can be used to remove detected threats. Visit the official website of Mcaffee and select the free online scan option. Let the procedure complete and select the appropriate option for solving the problem.
