I have dually booted my system with windows vista and linux , I need to recover data from a disk media based on embedded Linux and hence i need to access Linux partitions from Windows directly. please help me in Accessing Linux from Windows drives to recover data. Any help in this matter would be appreciated
The first solution is to extend "filesystems" recognized by Windows, ie to add the Windows kernel layer of management that lacks access hard to Linux. This is called a IFS (Installable File System).There is an Ext2 IFS for Windows, compatible with both Windows XP and Windows Vista, which works under Windows 32 bit and 64 bit.
The steps which i have mentioned below will help you to recover your data by directly accessing Linux from Windows drives to recover data
- Download Ext2 IFS for Windows
- Run the file Ext2IFS_1_11.exe
- Check "I Agree", Click Next to screen Drive Letters
- Check "Assign drive letters automatically upon plugging in a device the first time", Click Next
- Click Next then Finish
- Open Control Panel Windows Classic mode. Note the presence of a new module. This allows to assign drive letters to disk volumes detected Linux.
- Now open Windows Explorer. The Linux disk formatted Ext2 or Ext3 should now appear and you should be able to access it like any Windows disk, both reading and writing! All file operations (read, write, copy, rename, etc..) Are possible, but formatting the disk Ext2 from Windows.
If you do not want to overload your system, because your access needs are very sporadic and only in reading For example if you want to retrieve some records or films of certain multimedia hard drives or recorders HDD) you can quite opt for specific software. They appear as clones of Windows Explorer and can recover files on Linux partitions.
In the above situation the Explore2fs offers a more sober interface but may be more practical. The software runs under Windows 9x, 2000 and XP, but is not suitable for Vista although it can be used in mode "administrator" on this system. Again, access is only possible reading. It supports large files and formats Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS! too.
I would suggest you to use the Linux Reader 1.1 Since this program takes an interface very close to that of Windows XP Explorer. The software runs under Windows 9x, 2000, XP and Vista. Access is only possible reading, but there are no limitations on file size. This program is very extensively used across the globe.
