I have some family videos or movies on DVD. It may be interesting to put in the form of video files that you can easily put on CD for playback on the computer or a DVD player, copy them a hard disk for playback on your computer or take it with by storing them on your portable media player. I had found Fairuse for that but don't know to use it.
FairUse Wizard is a free tool and it allows you to copy a DVD onto your hard drive and then compress it into one of two video formats AVI most popular DivX and XviD. You'll end up as a video file of 700 MB for an entire film, with image quality very acceptable: precisely the size of a blank CD.
The best part of this software is that it guides you step by step through each phase to create the final file. You must initially select the file that represents your movie among all the DVD. The film is then analyzed and you are invited to cut and crop the video to remove unnecessary elements such as black bands. This will allow you to save space and improve the quality of the video. You can also choose the audio track and subtitle to superimpose your video.
You can also specify the codec used to compress the movie (DivX or XviD) and the audio track and adjust their parameters to improve the quality of compression.To compress your DVD to DivX or XviD (and play videos in these formats), the codecs must be installed on your computer. It is better if you have all the codecs in your computer so that there should not be issue while converting.
The main formats are selected by default and the option by selection the Profile 1. It is the default and the most appropriate. To keep your video into a limited size of a disc FairUse will compress it using a codec (XviD or DivX). Plus the movie is long, over the final quality will be lower. It is interesting to cut unnecessary elements in the video as the black bands. The space will be freed and used to improve the quality of the video.
If you get the full edition version of FairUse Wizard then you can cut the generic start and end of your film to reduce the length of your movie and increased quality. Move the cursor to it at the beginning of the film after the opening credits. In the Interval box, click the button next to the item early. Then move the cursor to the end of the film, just before the end credits. In the Interval box, click the button next to the element end Set audio encoding. But this features is only available in the paid version.
