radeon 4870 HD problem after driver update
PLEASE HELP!
I wouldn't ordinarily start a thread with these words - but i have somehow managed to break my video card.
Radeon 4870 HD - updated driver and was running game fine after reboot.
turned pc off ... then about an hour later turned back on and the fan on the card went crazy non-stop "wherring" and nothing came up on screen and no power to keyboard or mouse.
tried a few different things - took card out, reset bios, - now if the card is plugged into motherboard, i get nothing - no bios screen, no boot.
not sure what i can do from here ... is the card stuffed?
unfortunately i do not have onboard video for MB ... so need to get a cheap card just to get pc working again.
any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
(to clarify - the drivers were the latest from the ati site 4800 series.)
Re: radeon 4870 HD problem after driver update
It may not be necessary that the issue is related with type or the version of driver is been installed. Basically it may correspond to the system that may have series bug issue and might have caused the drivers that is been installed to malfunction by getting appended to it. Scan the system and then reinstall the drivers by uninstalling the drivers again.
Re: radeon 4870 HD problem after driver update
i have tried the following:
* uninstalled ATI CCC
* tried another video card
* loaded other version of drivers
* restored system
* reset bios
no real luck with any of this ... this is now an intermittent problem - not occuring all the time, it happens after I power down - then turn back on.
I can get the system running again by reseating the RAM - or taking one out and changing the slot.
Not really sure what this means now?
but probably not relating to driver update ...
maybe the video card?
maybe the RAM?
maybe the mother board?
maybe the PSU?
Not sure how to diagnose further???
Re: radeon 4870 HD problem after driver update
my system is:
biostar tpower i45
Q6600 2.4 (not o/c)
2x 2GB RAM OCZ reapers
sapphire radeon hd4870
be quiet 650w dark power PSU
any help would really be appreciated ... wasted a few nights on this ... and is damn frustrating to re-seat RAM just to try to boot up.
Thanks.
(btw appy10 - what do u mean by "scan the system"?)
