issues with Wireless connectivity in Macbook Air

I have a Macbook Air which runs on Mac OS X 10.4. I use Time capsule to take the back up of my data wirelessly and use a Linksys router to connect to Internet. The problems which I am facing with Macbook Air is that the Wifi connection between Time capsule and the Macbook Air Terminates when used in Close Clamp mode. Also some times the Macbook is not able to connect to the Linksys router using Wifi. I dont know if anybody is facing the same problem with Macbook Air. If anybody has a solution please let me know.

For your information any wireless device can only communicate with one device at a time. As you are taking back up with Time capsule using a Wifi connection, the laptop will only communicate with Time capsule and will not be able to access the router. To be able to communicate with two devices at a time, you will require two Airport cards on the Macbook Air. Hence my advice to you will be to add one more airport card on the MACbook so that you will be able to access the Internet and take back up at the same time.

Whenever the Macbook is used in close clamp mode the internal display of the Macbook is disabled. When the Internal display of the Macbook is disabled it puts the system in sleep mode. In sleep all the bluetooth and Wifi connections are terminated. Hence you are facing the problem of termination of connection with the Time capsule when you are using Close clamp mode. Go to System preferences and then enable the networking and bluetooth connectivity while in sleep mode. After activating this option the connection to time capsule will not get terminated.

No the Wireless and bluetooth connectivity of the Macbook should not get terminated when the Close clamp mode is activated. Modern Macbooks have many features which include maintaining connectivity in close clamp mode. Only the bluetooth connection gets temporarily affected when close clamp mode is activated, the Wifi connectivity continues to be stable. Hence there is some hardware problem due to which the Wifi connection is getting affected in Close clamp mode. I would suggest you to visit the apple service center and get the Macbook checked as soon as possible.

The Airport card on your Macbook Air is faulty and need to be replaced. You are not able to connect to the Linksys router by using Wifi and also the wifi connectivity is getting terminated when Close clamp mode is used. Therefore there is high possibility that the Airport card on your Macbook has developed some faults and has to replaced. Before replacing the card, open the laptop and see if the cable connecting the Airport card to the logic board is properly attached, because a cable not connected properly can also create issues as you are facing.

I was facing the same problem with my Macbook Pro. It was also not able to connect to internet using Wireless connectivity. I tried to figure out what is the problem and found that it is not able to configure itself automatically. Manually configuring it helped me in solving the Issue. To manually configure the Macbook Air, First go to System Preferences. Now select and open Network Preferences and go to advance tab. Start configuring the Macbook by entering its IP address, DNS and Preferred DNS and the Default gateway. Once all these settings are entered, save and exit the wizard. Now you will be able to connect to the router without any problems.
