Problems in Managing File Permissions in MAC OSX
Hello guyz, I have just bought a New Mac system which is running on Mac OSX Snow Leopard. As I am new to Mac system I facing Problems in Managing file permissions in Mac OSX. I have not understood the file permissions in OS X, therefore I need some advice in this. I want to connect two Mac system using wired or Wireless connection to share the files and folders between them. Please suggest a way in which this can be done easily without any difficulties.

To connect two Mac systems with Wired or Wireless communication, you will just have to put some configurations. If you are using wired connection and connecting both the computers directly, then you will require a cross cable. After plugging in the wire, open the System preferences from Apple menu and then select network. Now put IP address whichever you want in the IP address tab. Remember to give IP addresses to both the MAC belonging to same subnet. Once IP addresses are configured you can put the some files and sharing which will enable you to share files between two MAC's

To be able to transfer files and folders between two MAC's, you will have to issue same file sharing permissions across both the MAC's. That is you will have to use same name with both the MAC's. The files which have to be shared must have sharing permissions activated on them for the particular set of Users. Once this is achieved there will be no problem in sharing the files between two users. Point to be noted here is that, you dont have to log in as same user on both the MAC's but to create sharing permissions between the user log-ins used.

In order to share files and folders between to interconnected MAC's you will just have to shard the file or folder. Once the file or folder is given sharing permission, then you will be able to transfer it without any issues. You will not require a special users defined in order to share the files. Log in by using two different accounts on the MAC machines, find or locate the shared files or folders and then just copy and paste it on the location required. It just as transferring data from external hard drive to your MAC.

You dont need any special permissions for copying the files from one Mac to other, but if you need to modify, edit or delete the data which is there on the Remote Mac then you will be needing special permissions for that. To be able to modify, delete or edit the data on the remote machine, you will have to make a certain set of users which will have all access permissions for the data on two Mac's. Login using these special account to any of the MAC and you will be able to modify, delete or edit the data residing on the Remote MAC without any problems. To create new user accounts, go to system preferences in the apple menu and then select user accounts. Now create new user account with all access permissions and save it. Now use this account to access the data on remote MAC.

Creating a User's Public folder once file sharing is enabled will solve all your problems. You can upload as well as download files by creating an User's Public folder. To share files from User's Public folder no special permissions are required. It is a public folder from which any user can share data. The procedures for creating User's Public folder can be found out by visiting the official apple site and searching into the version of Operating system you are using.
