Windows firewall get off automatically
Hi,
I am using my laptop on a local Windows network. The network is configured in my office. Recently I had seen some virus warning from my computers. I had scanned and cleaned he same. But after that I have noticed that my firewall is getting turned off automatically. The same is showed by my friend. Is this is a virus problem. I did not know much about this. How to configure Windows Firewall properly. Thanks in advance.
Re: Windows firewall get off automatically
The firewall included with Windows Service Pack 2 is sufficient to ensure adequate security for those who do not download anything. The application has basic filtering rules that allow you to more effectively control incoming connections. This is enough for a local area network. You can just go in control panel and enable the firewall. Otherwise you can run and install a third party software to get out proper security.
Re: Windows firewall get off automatically
It is true that the new version of XP firewall does not always control outbound connections. In other words, if you have a malicious program on your PC that sends information via your internet connection for example, the program has a great chance not to be worried. It is possible that some program might have disabled your firewall. It is basically due to antivirus. The antivirus has its own third party firewall.
Re: Windows firewall get off automatically
It can be due to misconfiguration. But the same can be configured via control panel. It is usually easy to configure. In the control panel, firewall ICS (Internet Connection Firewall) has its own icon named as his name does not indicate Windows Firewall. Double click on it. First, start with the firewall enabled by selecting Enabled (recommended). Do not leave allow unchecked exceptions (exceptions are actions that do not fit into the predetermined rules, such as the launch for the first time an FTP client that receives data).
Re: Windows firewall get off automatically
By default, a list of programs and services will be displayed in the exception tab. This list is not exhaustive. The exceptions are stored in the registry to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ SharedAccess \ Parameters \ FirewallPolicy \ StandardProfile (or DomainProfile) \ AuthorizedApplications \ List. You go here to control what programs can receive data from the outside without causing alarm system. The firewall alerts are generally like this.
Re: Windows firewall get off automatically
You will get several options if you go under the various categories in the firewall section. An exception will be added for this program in the list of exceptions. Attention, open a port can be dangerous if an application listening on that port. To learn more, I refer you to the concept of port. To allow a port, click Add Port. A small window appears. You'll now be able to enter a small description in the Name box, and the port number (for example you can put 80 if you want to open port 80).
