mysql port 3306 open
Hi guys, I recently found out a 7 year old computer in my dad's garage. It had some problem so i changed its memory and got it working. Its a linux box and i just came to know that it was the server my dad was using. Now everything is working file on this server, but sometimes internet connection drops. On further checking i found this box is terminating all the connection on port 80 after a couple of minutes, Then after sometime it starts again. Also i noticed that if i check from a network computer this linux box shows mysql port 3306 open. Is this a problem? I'm not familiar with these stuffs. Please guide me. Is it a problem? How do i close this port? Please help... :crybaby:

Re: mysql port 3306 open
You can check in your iptables if it is recording any weird activity. You can try to disable the ports from iptables. You can disable and enable any port from in here. Also check whats going on in network manager

Re: mysql port 3306 open
I would sugges you to disable the inbound connections. As you said you can see 3306 port on this box open from other computer, that means your mysql is accepting inbound connections. This may be a security loop hole... :thumbup1:

Re: mysql port 3306 open
I'm not familiar with mysql, but as far as i know mysql port 3306 is a default port which accepts and sends inbound and outbound connections. so you should not disable this port. If you want to use some other port, first assign it to mysql and the disable this port... :whistling
