Passive Heat Sinks
Hello , i am about to buy a Graphics card , on it features that i read on the internet , it states that it has passive Heatsink for Cooling , i quite dont understand what is passive heat sink , does it Differ from active heatsinks, it is same the passive cooling or passive cooling is something different , please give your ideas about these topic, thanks in advance for your replies

Re: Passive Heat Sinks
Cooling of a chip that does not have fan or water cooling (active cooling).is called as passive cooling , A passive heatsink is a metal that binds to a component which generates much heat (CPU, for example). It consists of one or more radiator fins with many metal (often copper) to a contact surface with the maximum air. The goal is to provide cooling to the processor by transmitting its heat to the heatsink and on the air. the passive heat sinks take up much space in a Whole (especially in height) and are less efficient than a fan, but they have the great merit of being completely silent.

Re: Passive Heat Sinks
In the case of a passive cooling, a simple heat sink is fixed on the element to cool. Composed of a metal with high thermal conductivity such as copper or the aluminum for example, it provides a contact surface between the component and the air much. The heat emitted by the component is dissipated into the air through the heat sink . To ensure contact, a thermal transfer between the effective component and heat sink, called as the thermal paste is usually applied. It eliminates the air (which is a thermal insulator) present between the two surfaces.

Re: Passive Heat Sinks
A heat sink is a device intended to facilitate the evacuation of Heats dissipated by the elements of an electronic device , These devices usually with fins, which should preferably be mounted vertically to facilitate cooling by convection. Passive heatsinks are made of an aluminum-finned radiator that dissipates heat through convection , The term passive indicates here that no mechanical part is in motion.
