Re: What is Cable Select option
A controller IDE has 2 channels. Each channel can handle 2 hard drives connected to a single cable. To function properly, each disk must be defined either as Master (master) or as slave (slave). Cable Select allows the controller to automatically recognize disks Slave and Master.
Re: What is Cable Select option
To work with cable select mode, you need a special cable (hard to find) and position the jumpers on the back of your hard drive, you might need to check the manufacturer's instructions on the disc. However, this method is rarely used because it is too restrictive. It is recommended by manufacturers of hard not to use the cable select method to format a disk. Similarly, the cable select method allows fewer opportunities for the Master/ Slave. method configuration

When you want to use the cable select mode on IDE drives, you must connect them to the proper connector , The two slots closest to each other are used to connect hard drives. On the other side the Cable the IDE controller card is to be connected . Generally, the end connector of the cable is black, the middle connector is gray
