How to deal with Dell snmp services in windows 2003
I have a Dell server onto which I need to install the openManage software. What I noticed is that the snmp service kept crashing on all these machines. I followed the doc. on how to configure the snmp agent on the monitored machine and I double checked the setting. We dont have any network monitoring software! Is there any best practise/guidance on this?

Is your server fully patched? does it say why you can't restart the service? This is because I have this problem since I have upgraded all of my server to OMSA 5.4. Before version 5.4, I have running on version 4.5, 5.0, 5.2 and 5.3 without problem. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) dominate when it comes to capturing information about a device and reporting that information back to a central authority.

The server is fully patched. When the snmp service hang, I will not be able to stop or restart the service. I had one quick question; should I install the SNMP service on a domain controller? OpenManage apparently doesn't need it but are there good reasons to install it? I have to restart the snmp service and have IT assistant to discover the machine again.

Have you called into Open Manage support yet? I resolved it. Bug with the Server Administrator version. I installed version 5.4.0.1 which addressed this exact issue. Go to Start | Control Panel | Add Or Remove Programs. In the Windows Components window, scroll down and select Management And Monitoring Tools. This will solve your problem.
