Changing Dell Inspiron 6000 video card
My screen froze on a still picture while watching video and after restarting has gone completely black but the machine is turning on since I hear the intro music when starting up. Connecting to an external monitor does not work. From what I have read today online it would appear that it is not an inverter or LCD screen problem but that the video card has perhaps burnt itself out since the machine often becomes very hot when used for long periods of time. Is this correct?
If so how easy will it be to purchase and replace the videocard?

You can not add video card in to laptop only you can do is get external graphics card well for your Dell Inspiron 6000 update driver to latest one also check temperature with bench mark application like gupz
Re: Changing Dell Inspiron 6000 video card
Before changing your video card, I would suggest you to update your video card drivers, follow this --
- Go to My Computer >> Right-click >> Select Properties
- Click on Hardware tab >> Under Device Manager, click on Device Manager
- A list of all the hardware devices installed in your system appears.
- Find Sound, video and game controllers >> Click on '+' sign
- Find your graphic card >> Right-click >> select Update Drivers
After performing the above procedure, if the problem still retains, then go ahead to replace your video card.

Most probably it can be the overheat problem, you must use external fan to cool off. It also can be the backlight problem because backlight is part of the LCD. You need to replace the backlight but it is very difficult to do. Also try some troubleshooting. Reboot the machine and keep pressing F8 until you get to a menu. Once you are there select "good known configuration"
Re: Changing Dell Inspiron 6000 video card
First make sure your monitor is working properly, hook it with someone else PC , few days ago some what same thing happened to me, i was watching movie and suddenly monitor screen changed in wired color and then turned off completely and then monitor was not starting at all, i had to replace monitor at service center, if you having the same issue then go for service center replacement. Hope this will help. Good luck
