Blueyonder - slow outgoing Mail
I am having problems with slow outgoing Emails, I normally use Thunderbird, Outlook Express is the same, all else is fine, just that when you send a simple Email it can take forever to go.
I checked the smtp.blueyonder.co.uk setting, I even installed XP on a spare drive and nothing else, no Av no Firewall - nothing! still the same on Outlook Express and Firefox when that was installed.
On doing a SMTP test I get -: SMTP -> ERROR: RCPT not accepted from server: 550 Administrative prohibition - relaying not allowed.
Also typing telnet smtp.blueyonder.co.uk 25 in command prmpt brought -: 220 asmtp-out6.blueyonder.co.uk ESMTP Sun, 26 Jul 2009 11:08:40 +0100
421 asmtp-out6.blueyonder.co.uk SMTP command timeout - closing connection
Connection to host lost.
I also checked the upstream power level in the Modem.
Could anyone throw light on this, would you agree it's a config. fault at VM end and is there anything else I can do, what would be the next step?

Re: Blueyonder - slow outgoing Mail
This error is because of these two things :
1 You are trying to send email using a non VM IP addres.
2 You are using a VM IP address, but its not allowed to use SMTP whatever.
This happens if a new VM IP range has come into play, but has not been added to the SMTP allowed list.
Re: Blueyonder - slow outgoing Mail
You are quite right I am trying to send mail from a non VM IP - did the post not say blueyonder?
smtp.blueyonder.co.uk is correct since my Email provider IS blueyonder

Apparently according to the engineer this morning it is a server problem but sadly he can not say when the problem will be fixed - My guess is never because I imagine they are saying 'why the heck should we' when VM are ridding themselves from the Email market and handing their Email customers over to GMail sometime next year?
See The Register for details....
... waste of time isn't it? Sorry, I certainly won't be using any web based mail!

Re: Blueyonder - slow outgoing Mail
Contact your ISP and ask them what Outgoing Mailserver they want you to put in your mail program settings.
