how do you hook up a linksys router to a bellsouth modem
My ex-colleague is running a bellsouth dsl network and I want to hook with him with the wireless network at his house. I have a linksys router and I have followed the instructions as well but cannot get the net to start. Now, I want to know a way on how to hook up a linksys router to a bellsouth modem, can anybody help me? thank you

Have you been able to connect without the router (i.e. connect a computer directly to the modem)? If your router supports PPPoA or PPPoE standards, they should never know that you used it. Is your ISP using special software to connect to the net?

You need to configure youre Westell in Bridged Mode:

I assure you that modem must be set to bridged mode. The new Westell modems have a switch that sets them to bridged ethernet. Alternately, you can enter Expert Mode and change configuration settings in modem firmware.
Then set Linksys to PPoE and enter your userid and password. About all there is to it.
I believe there are instructions on the Bellsouth web site.

You'll need to set the router to the network (DSL) settings. Changing the modem to bridging usually means changing the router settings. (And it's not necessary unless you're forwarding ports, the modem is a router and they won't give you the router address.)
Make sure that your laptop is set to automatically get an IP address on the wireless adapter.
