Re: Windows 2008 firewall allow ping
By default windows Server 2008 does not reply to ICMP packets that is ping packets .I think it is due to security by default you can not able to Ping a Windows Server 2008. Also check for network but mainly there is mostly problem with network but in real it is disabled. To enabled Ping reply from Windows Server 2008, goto Window Firewall with Advance Settings from Administrator Tools menu.
Re: Windows 2008 firewall allow ping
To enable this go to Administrative Tools > Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Search down to File And Print Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-IN) (or v6 if you are using ipv6)Enabled this rule ICMP and Ping is useful for quickly checking if machines are up/down, i.e. during a reboot pinging it. Leaving it off secures you by reducing the attack surface which I'm sure is why it's off by default.
