4 desktops in 1

I have been wondering if it is possible to have multiple desktops at a same time on a single computer? Say 4 desktops in 1 operating system at a same time? I'm new to computers when it comes to advance customizing, please help guys! :notworthy :rolleyes:

Linux has had it for many years on pretty much all the window managers you can get out there. Hell, you can even get a nice cube/slide effect with the program Compiz Fusion.

I used to have a program for Windows too, that did the same, but it didn't work well at the time.
I'm afraid that I can't remember what the program was called though.
