How to open a new window in Windows Vista ?
hello,
I have recently upgraded my Windows OS from XP to Vista. In windows XP, I was easily able to open a folder or folder shortcut in a new window by just holding the Ctrl key while double-clicking the folder. But in windows Vista, I am not able to achieve the same. Can anybody please suggest me how can I open a folder in new window in Vista ?
Any ideas...!!

To temporarily open a folder in a separate or a new window : Open Windows Explorer >> Turn on the Navigation Pane >> Right-click on a folder >> To Open the Folder in a Separate New Window - Click on Open.

It's a bit weird in Windows Vista. If the Folders panel in the left side of the folder is expanded, then double-click open feature won't work. You first need to collapse it. It will then work.

Follow the instructions below to permanently open a folder in the Same or Separate Window :
Open a Windows Explorer -- Open Folder Options.
To Always Open the Folder in the Same Window -
Note: Sets Explore as default in context menu.
- Dot Open each folder in the same window.
- Click on OK.
Note: You can now just click on the folder, or right click on the folder and click on Explore, to always open it in the same window.
To Always Open the Folder in a Separate New Window -
Note: Sets Open as default in context menu.
- Dot Open each folder in its own window.
- Click on OK.
- Turn off the Navigation Pane in the Windows Explorer window.
Warning: This will not work unless you do this.
Note: You can now just click on the folder, or right click on the folder and click on Open, to always open it in a separate window.
Close Folder Options and the Windows Explorer window.
