I/O hard-drive device error
I have 160 GB external hard-disk in which I have saved all my backups, images, music, movies, text documents, ppt files, etc. When I connect the hard-disk to my computer system, it shows me I/O device error. This is happening from past 2-3 days. Why it is showing me I/O device error ? Is my hard-disk safe ?
What should I do now ? Any ideas/suggetions...
Re: I/O hard-drive device error
Since you getting I/O device error, it seems that your external harddisk is either damaged or is about to damage. I think you should quickly recover all your data from this hard-disk to another one..
Re: I/O hard-drive device error
With the help of PCI File Recovery, try to recover as much data as you can. Then, run chkdsk /f on that drive. Note - Keep in mind that the attempted repair may actually cause more damage to the file system. But at this point, I cannot find too many alternatives since the drive may be on its way out.
Re: I/O hard-drive device error
EasyRecovery DataRecovery is a simple, yet powerful tool which recovers data that is lost, inaccessible or deleted. It's an ultimate solution for all causes of data loss (except physical hardware or system problems) where your hard drive and system are fully functional.
Re: I/O hard-drive device error
Download Knoppix Live CD.
This is a bootable CD that will not write anything to your hard drives but you can atleast see what you can save by moving data to another drive.
