Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection problem - Media Disconnected
I'm having a wireless router (DLink DI-524, revision C) plugged into the ethernet jack in the wall. I decided to network my two computers both running windows XP service pack 2 together. Nothing was changed in the configuration of the router or card, but all of a sudden my wireless won't connect. I ran an ipconfig, it says Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected. I have tried doing Ipv6 uninstall..... renew.... release... nothing works.

Operating System? Trying to connect via ethernet or wireless or both? Have you ever connected this computer to a router or modem successfully? Media disconnected is as far as you need to go. Means your not connected either via wired ethernet cable or wireless. Pretty generic error but basically it means your not connected in any way to another node on your network.

You can try updating the latest drivers for the network card or upgrading firmware on the router. That might help. Under the Authentication tab, make sure the "Enable 802.1X on this connection" checkbox is clear and not checked. for the time being you could do the following, Go to Start, Select Run, type CMD, Press OK to open a command prompt:
Type the following command:IPCONFIG /ALL
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. This will help me to help you, there are little things that may give the big hint.
Re: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection problem - Media Disconnected
When you are having trouble with wireless then encryption question is important. Please login to your router and check the encryption (in the wireless section). If it is not already 'disabled' or 'off' or 'none' set it that way and try to connect again. The router should be connected to the DSL/Cable modem. The router has a WAN port and that is the port you'll connect the modem to. Next, the revision C of that model supports WPA. If your network equipment can support it then I suggest you secure your wireless computers with WPA. Otherwise, go for 128 Bit encryption and change the default SSID.

Re: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection problem - Media Disconnected
I've been running a wireless connection though a wireless router for a year or so and now i have a desktop as well. Everytime I connect the desktop to the router the I have no connection on either the laptops in the house or the desktop. If I go ahead and disconnect the desktop then connection is available on all laptops.
The message that displays on the laptops when the desktop is connected is there is "IP address conflict with another system on network" and the message that is displayed on the desktop is the network cable is unplugged.
Can someone help me and tell me whats wrong so I can get this set up?

The netbook I am using works if I wire it to the router but won't connect wirelessly. I've updated the drivers for the router and the netbook and am getting
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network connection:
Media State.......Media disconnected
yet this is only when I try to connect at home other than that it works in other places. Home router is a Netgear and netbook is Acer Aspire One.

What is the model number of the Netgear router you have and from where have you updated its drivers? Have you also tried updating the routers firmware? Most of the people face this annoying problem and what I usually do (hoping that the customer is going to be able to set their router up again) is hold the reset for 15 seconds and let the router reboot itself. That should put it back to its out-of-box settings.
