hello friends,
Whenever I start my computer, the Windows Live Messenger popups on startup for which I have kept the setting which is OK. But along with it, the "Search Enhancement Pack" window pops up for no reason. This happens on every start up. what is this happening ? can anyone please suggest me on how to disable or remove this search enhancement pack window .....
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
The Search Enhancement Pack is a part of the Live toolbar, not the
Messenger.
You can try removing this Pack by -
- click Start
- select Run
- type the following:msiexec /x {299CF645-48C7-4FA1-8BCD-5CE200CF180D}
- click OK.
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
The search enhancement pack is not really needed. You can disable it if you want by applying the steps mentioned in the above post. However, this folder doesn't cause any harm to your system. you just need to cancel once it appears....
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
You can also find this Search Enhancement Pack folder in the Program files > Microsoft and uninstall from there.....very simple
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
I did as suggested. Could not delete.
Received the following message: cannot delete access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.
Makes me wonder if the program is running in the background all the time.

Download and use Unlocker software to delete the files which gives this kind of error. Download here.
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
This one works all the time:
TO REMOVE: "Search Enhancement Pack"
Window upon boot-up.
1. Go to C:/Program Files/Microsoft/Search
Enhancement Pack
2. Look for a file named "Seaport.exe" and change it
to "Seaport old.exe" and delete all files in this
folder.
3. Delete all programs "Windows Live Messenger" in
Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Restart
Computer.
4. If "Search Enhancement Pack" windows does not
appear upon boot-up, then re-install Windows
Live Messenger. (latest version)
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
Just solved this today. This process should work on any program you want to uninstall that isn' accessible through "Add/Remove Programs"
After searching through the "Run" and "RunOnce" keys in my registry and scanning msconfig for the offending popup folder I decided to uninstall.
Launch regedit (you only search and copy-no changes)
Click on "My computer" at the top of the key structure
Hit F3 (or Cntrl-F for "Find")
Select the checkbox for "Values" only and search for "uninstallstring" (without quotes)
As you find these values in your registry you will see in the right pane a value called DisplayName (the name of the program to be uninstalled)
After you find the name of the program you want to uninstall (in this popups case "ChoiceGuard" or "Search Enhancement Pack")
Double-click the uninstallstring value for that program and copy the string data to your clipboard (should look like "msiexec /x ........")
close regedit
click on start-then Run then paste in your clipboard
click ok
answer Yes to the prompts and it is gone.
Re: Search Enhancement Pack window popups on startup
This is part of the Windows Live Essentials program and can be removed by going to:-
Add/Remove programs
Select Windows Live Essentials and click on uninstall you will then see a pop up window with different parts of the program listed.
Select the windows logo and you will see the search enhancement pack explanation. Put a tick in this box and press continue and follow instructions.
Only this element of the program is removed leaving the rest intact.
Job Done
ps. Sorry for the late answer, only just spotted your problem but hope this will help someone else.
