USB drive - Access denied for add/modify
Something has went wrong with my Windows XP Sp2 laptop. I’ve few Pen Drivers and External HDD which I use to connect with this laptop for file transfer. But since last week whenever I connect any pendrive or hdd, system won’t provide me complete access of the same. I mean, I can open files, read them, even copy them on my desktop fine, but when I move any file from my laptop to HDD or Pen Drive it wont allow. Even when I try to create and folder in those external drives, I get an error message saying “Unable to create New Folder access denied.”
As troubleshooting part I have set “Use simple file sharing(Recommended)” from folder option but yet the same problem. There is no security tab in those drive properties.
Does someone have any information on this? Please help.
Re: USB drive - Access denied for add/modify
Did you tried connecting those external drives in some another computer? Are they working fine over there (complete permission) ? Also are you logged in as an Administrator on your PC?
Re: USB drive - Access denied for add/modify
Yes Landon, I already tried connecting these pen drives and portable HDD on two different computers before posting the query here and they are working fine everywhere. Only the problem is on my computer only.
Also let me tell you that the drives are working fine in Safe Mode.
Any suggestion?
Re: USB drive - Access denied for add/modify
I was having exactly the same problem with one of my Kingston pen drive. I was not able to create folders neither paste anything in the drive. After lots of researches, finally I came to know that it was due to my Antivirus program. I just disabled the "Threat protection" option and thereafter i was able to write/copy to thumb drive. See if it is not the case in yours.

Thank you very much for the reply FRIESEN. It really helped. It was Antivirus itself in my case also.
