Stop installation of removable devices
Hi all, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 OS. Many of my friends use my computer since before i was using vista. They install and use some removable devices like pendrive and all, which i don't like to be done on my PC. But i can't stop them.
Is there any way i can make my Windows 7 system to stop installing any removable devices ? One of my friends does this in vista.
Re: Stop installation of removable devices
yeah, its possible to prevent insatllation of any removable devices on your Windows 7 system. To do so , just go through this simple steps:-
1. Open Local Group Policy Editor
2. Now navigate to the folder:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation\Device Installation Restrictions in the left pane
3. Now double click the Prevent installation of removable devices option in the right pane
4. In the Prevent installation of removable devices window click the dot Enabled to prevent installation of removable devices
5. Click Apply and then OK button
6. Close Local Group Policy Editor.
Thats it. You are done.
Re: Stop installation of removable devices
What if a user who has already installed a storage device, like a USB drive? He can continue to use it. The most common solution among these particular administrators is to disable the USB ports on workstations. Some newer machines allow you to disable USB ports through the BIOS, but most older machines do not offer this capability. In such cases, a favorite solution is often to fill the USB port with glue to keep it from being used.
