Seatgate Barracuda 7200.11 - 1.5TB - firmware update
I need a little / much "support".
I have just invested in a Qnap TS-109-PRO to be on my network at home, thus acting as a NAS (Network Attached Storage). To put this Qnap I bought a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 at 1.5TB. But google tells me that there have been problems with the firmware on any of these discs.
I sit right now, waiting for the package, you can not see what it says on the disc yet, and therefore can not see if the firmware is the latest.
But .. My problem is that I have no desktop computer, or an external hard drive housing that I can put the hard drive in. So how can I update the firmware? (and also .. how is that?)
I can put the hard drive in my Qnap ST-109 Pro, but it is linux based and it is, as I understand the google to what the problem with the disc, it has to occur. But, I can update the hard disk firmware via QNAP? Or do I have to find a friend with a desktop and borrow his PC to update?
(just helping people out there with Seagate is called - ST31500341AS -)
Hope for early help, so I can get my back up and running.
Re: Seatgate Barracuda 7200.11 - 1.5TB - firmware update
Had the same problem with a 1.5 TB Seagate. Contacted Seagate via their online chat - entered serial. - And got a firmware update sent. There is a detailed manual for how to do so that you can hardly go wrong. However, I think that you need a computer for it. I do not believe that it is possible through your NAS, but try to contact them via chat, so they can help you.

So just came upto your thread because I myself struggle with the seagate disk. Mine is 500GB that has gone down and the other follows suit soon as well.
Did you solved your problem?
Re: Seatgate Barracuda 7200.11 - 1.5TB - firmware update
I have been fortunate that the firmware installed on my disk is not the latest, and thus be without any problems.. So far
And now I am getting myself a new computer, which is desktop, so it will be no longer a problem.
Thank you for your fine answers.
