Problem with Vista home Premium
Hello everyone,
I expose my situation: My laptop currently runs under vista home Premium. I must use software that is not compatible with vista 32bit. I would therefore like to reduce my system partition to install XP in dual-boot and then install the software in question. Only reduce the system partition with Vista does not work, file systems are scattered everywhere.
I have defragments outside Vista but I do not know how, what software to use? Or are there software.
PS: I want to install XP just for this software ... But is there not a way to emulate the software to act as if it was in XP?
The software is concerned Catia V5 R18.
Thank you for the answers you give me.
EDIT: Of all the tools contained in Ultimate Boot CD, is there a defragmenter?
Re: Problem with Vista home Premium
What is the problem that you meet when you want to install this software on Vista? Is it that you tried compatibility mode? Right click on the Compatibility tab and then. You could try VirtualBox: Installing XP in a virtual machine. VirtualBox supports openGL but I'm not sure that this is sufficient to Catia.
Re: Problem with Vista home Premium
Good evening,
Vista has a defragment, otherwise use ultradefrag utility.
The solution to install a virtual machine as you suggested gillesv38 (VirtualBox) is a good solution and it protects your system. As against, for the configuration of the virtual machine (shared CD player for example), I could not go with you.
I am surprised that the partitioning tool in Vista does not work: you do Start -> right-click Computer -> manage?
If not in the same style, there is gparted
Re: Problem with Vista home Premium
This software is not compatible with vista
My problem for partitioning under vista is that files are scattered in spite of the many defragmentation with Defragmenter and vista disk defrag ... I think that the vista system files that are not replaced because they are in use.
I read somewhere that Gparted does not move the files already present so that they are all together, this I would therefore remove some files or file system. Is this true?
Thank you very much
Re: Problem with Vista home Premium
Vista that have files everywhere. Tent files stopping running, I find that this is not normal that the defrag does not work beyond creating a partition.
As for VirtualBox, I use it now with Ubuntu:), there are "additions clients to add, share files, drives, etc.. to do (something I have not done. And I think it's not that easy. But as I said, I use it with Ubuntu. The beast is in my eyes a little hard to configure but very nice.
