Problem with external hard disk
I have a huge problem. I took my external hard drive that I had suddenly fallen to the ground. After trying on 3 different PC it appears that my computer no longer recognizes my hard drive the message that comes is:
"One of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
Is there something to do or my hard drive is definitely dead?
Re: Problem with external hard disk
I personally believe that you are hard to made a good move. Given that the internal mechanism is rather fragile with the cylinder, the read heads and all, I personally think it is dead. If you really have very important data in it, it seems that some people dismantle their drive, remove the cylinder containing the data and put in another drive. This usually leaves a few minutes of operation to copy the data before saying goodbye forever. As against, I never do so I can not say much on it.
Re: Problem with external hard disk
Bad idea to disassemble a hard disk, try to sort the box and plug it into a PC internally, because the message of a usb malfunction is a problem of the cable or the box controller
Re: Problem with external hard disk
1) Try some other hard drive on the same external box just to confirm if the hard drive itself is faulty.
2) You can also test the disk by directly putting it into a PC or using another external box.
