Error Message : 0x00000866 during Printer Installation
Hi Folks, I have a problem. I have purchased a new printer installed (local), but unfortunately, my Windows Vista does not install the printer. During the installation I always get the error message "Print driver could not be installed - access denied" even though it is the correct driver. My question is now what could be this and how can I fix this problem. now I install the printer on another PC on the network and install it then stop as a network printer. But unfortunately this is not working as it does not connect to this printer comes as error (0x00000866). I have read here in the forum that you to resolve this problem the printer installed locally and must have a setting in the registry need to carry.
I would be very grateful, I am in despair. Thank you!

Hello,
I have the same problem:
On a win98 machine hangs the HP Laserjet 4L. Through a network, it is with a Vista PC. Unfortunately, it do not succeed, the installation of the printer driver on the Vista machine finish. The printer is shared on the network and is also on the Vista machine detected.
During the driver installation will probably try to print them. It appears the message "printer connection can not be established. The operation could not be completed (error 0x00000866)."
What can I do?

Try also the printer under Windows Vista as a local printer:
- Control Panel-> Printers-> Add Printer.
- Install a local printer.
- Create a new port (local port setting ).
- Path to the shared printer (Example: \\computer name\printer name) indicate.
- Drivers available.
I hope this helps you any further ...

This is great advice - thanks a lot! (printer is working finally :biggrin: )
Only thing to add
if there is a message error, that the port cant be created, it is probably listed in already defined local ports (just expand the dropdown list and you'll find it there)
