How to enable AHCI under Vista ?
"STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
I am getting this error message on my Windows Vista computer since last week. Since then I am trying to figure out how to fix this. Someone told me that I need to enable AHCI to fix this. So I am here to get some help from you guys. Can someone help me or guide me how to enable AHCI? Or is there any other way to fix this problem?
Re: How to enable AHCI under Vista ?
AHCI stands for Advanced Host Controller Interface. One of the main reasons for switching to AHCI-mode is to take advantage of the NCQ-Feature of your SATA hard drive. NCQ (Native Command Queuing) allows ATA drives to accept more than one command at a time and dynamically reorder the commands for maximum efficiency. NCQ, when used in conjunction with a hard drive that supports NCQ, can increase storage performance on random workloads.
Re: How to enable AHCI under Vista ?
You have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista. This time, install the AHCI driver from the manufacturer's site or CD provided to you. The system should boot without any stop codes.
Re: How to enable AHCI under Vista ?
To resolve this issue, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive. Just follow the below steps:
1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
