You can use TuneUp Utilities to change the theme and it works just fine. no need to patches or anything
Step 1 - Download and Install Tune Up Utilities from ->Here<-
Step 2 - Open It and click Customize Windows (at Left hand side)
Step 3 - Click Visual Style ( Botton of Left hand Side)
Step 4 - Now Click on Add > “Install Visual style from File”
Step 5 - Choose the Visual Style ( .msstyles or .theme format ) you had downloaded from your Hard Disk.
Step 6 - Click on “Apply Visual Style” to make it work.
This patcher works on Windows Vista SP1, Sp2 and X64 versions. You have to run it as admin.

How to replace these files?
- Login as a user with Administrative privileges -or- have Administrative credentials ready (check under the keyboard for a slip of paper).
- Navigate to %systemroot%\System32
- Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
- Take ownership of the file and close dialogs.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll
- Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
- Give yourself (or group) Full Control permissions and close dialogs.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll.
- Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old.
- Rename themeui.dll to themeui.old.
- Rename shsvcs.dll to shsvcs.old.
- Copy patched files into %systemroot%\System32
- Reboot (yes, this is really required)
- Enjoy!
