Vista Installation Problem
Hey guys I'm having some difficulties installing Vista on my new system.
These are new parts that i bought and put together so vista is the first OS ive tried to install on it.
Specs:
MSI K9A2 Platinum Mobo
AMD Phenom II 920
4GB Mushkin RAM
Geforce 8800 GTS
1TB HDD
and a samsung 22x optical drive
So I pop it my Vista 64 bit DVD and reboot the system to start the install.
ill get a gray loading bar at the bottom of my screen and that will go fine.
next i get a the normal vista loading screen and that goes fine also. now here is my problem. I get the mouse curser over a vista background and thats it.
i can move the mouse but nothing comes up. It just sits at this screen.
Ive checked my BIOS and it seems to detect everything fine.
I also tried My XP Pro disc and that seems to work fine
(i did not install XP just got up to the point of installation)
So I'm kind of at a loss and don't know what to do.
any help would be appreciated
Re: Vista Installation Problem
Try the following troubleshooting steps :
1)Locate which process is taking high CPU or memory with the help of taskmgr.
If its the rtvscan.exe or doscan.exe , Open SEP Interface and on the front page verfify what scan is it (startup, scheduled, could be weekly, daily or any other administrative scan)
It could also be the SMC.exe that might be taking lotta memory or the CPU.
Edit the AV policy to take out the startupscan, uncheck the network scanning , and load auto protect when the Symantec Endpoint Protection starts rather than when the system starts.
If you do not have floppy drives, good practice to remove the option to scan floppy drives while shutting down.
"Scanning the computer when new virus definitions arrive" is again a good practce.
If you think its the loading of the virus definitions that cause the scan(In case its a scan) then delete the old definitions after stoppig the service.
Inbuilt client side logs would give you a better picture.

Re: Vista Installation Problem
So my advice would be to get out a screw driver and have a look around for lose wires, make sure everything is nice and snug. Give it a good "Cleaning job" to get all the dust out. Check BIOS for any odd reports etc etc... if you haven't already. Then if nothing works, I guess reinstall is all there is to do. My guess is reinstall ... well actually I take what I was going to say back. Reinstall just MIGHT fix the problem if the corruption happens to be localized to a particular part of the executive (which has no built-in redundancy that I know of like DLLCACHE) and needs a refresh/relocation.
Re: Vista Installation Problem
Thanks guys, but im still having the same issue.
These are all new parts that i bought a put together myself.
so there was no OS on this system before trying to install Vista.
Ive double checked and triple checked all my connections and eveything is fine.
I have since then installed 32 bit XP pro, and it works fine.
But im still having the same issue with Vista.
Ill pop in the disc. reboot and boot from my CD drive.
Ill get the "Windows is loading files" page and the loading page right after.
But as soon as i get the courser over the background it just stops.
I dont get to select anything or even press "next" once. Nothing happens.
so yeah any help would be great.
Re: Vista Installation Problem
I was also facing the same issue i tried to use another Vista CD or check you HDD Connection is proper or not .If you are using Sata HDD than in the BIOS setting Keep Boot HDD as Sata Instead of IDE.Have a Check over it, hope it works for you too.
