dns request timed out with nslookup
At office we are running a Windows Server (SBS) 2003 network. Since last few days we are facing some problem with Exchange. When I tried pinging the server with IP address which is 192.168.1.9, it is not able to ping but I am able to ping it with server name. Am sure there is some connection problem but what exactly?
I can assure you that we haven’t made any changes on the server before or after the problem started. As a workaround when I do NSlookup, I get this:
DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.1.9: Timed out
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.1.9
Any suggestions please?
Re: dns request timed out with nslookup
As you mentioned, if 194.xx.xx.xx is your ISP's DNS server then you need to remove the same and set the IP under forwarder’s Tab under DNS server properties. You will find this under DNS management console.
One thing I would like to know is have you configured a reverse lookup zone in DNS?
Re: dns request timed out with nslookup
Thanks Fawiza, as you asked, Yes I have configured a reverse lookup zone in DNS. By the way I followed the instructions you provided and now am able to ping the server with Server Name as well without any problem. Help appreciated.
