Windows Corrupt File Software.LOG
I am now too much frustrated with my Desktop running Windows XP SP3. Since past couple of days as soon as I login to my system I first get greeted with an pop up window saying:
“Windows - Corrupt File
The file or Directory C:\windows\system32\config\software.LOG is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk.utlilty”
Not just while boot up but this pop appears several times later as well. As the error says, I tried running Check disk more than 20 times so far but yet no success. The error keeps appearing. I don’t know what else to do. Somebody please help me getting rid of this. Thank you very much.
Re: Windows Corrupt File Software.LOG
There are several ways of running CHKDSK and their effects have different impacts. So can you tell me how exactly did you 'run chkdsk' ?
If you are running normally from the Command Prompt as many people do then let me tell you that it is not going to fix anything. To make it more effective. right-click your hdd under My Computer, go to Properties, Tools, Error-checking, and select both options, then reboot. It will run the check disk tool on next boot up and fix the problems.
Let us know the results.
Re: Windows Corrupt File Software.LOG
Thats absolutely correct. That should fix the problem. The exact same flags work from Command Mode as from GUI mode, including /f and /r.
Re: Windows Corrupt File Software.LOG
Thank you very much for the help Mike. I went through the steps as you said and that worked to perfection. No more error messages and my computer is running a lot faster!
I appreciate your help.
