Gigabyte Radeon 7970 question
I recently purchased a new Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 video card and I am really enjoying it. After installing the Catalyst driver I noticed that the core volatage of this card is locked. So I was just wondering if it is possible to modify the core or memory clocks whic the Core Voltage is locked? Can this be done without any issues? Thanks
Re: Gigabyte Radeon 7970 question
Absolutely, you will be able to still do some overclocking on the stock voltages, even if it is very little. Just make sure that the Voltage is locked. You can even use Trixx program if you want. This SAPPHIRE TriXX is a powerful application that was designed to provide a simple means to adjust and get the most out of your AMD Radeon graphics card. With the help of SAPPHIRE TriXX you can monitor the main parameters of the memory device and adjust the video card, the core and the GPU voltage.
Re: Gigabyte Radeon 7970 question
I dont think you will need to overclock the card. But you can get RadeonPro and then set the mipmap settings to Quality and it should get you a nice performance gain. RadeonPro is a useful software utility and is very reliable. It helps you to improve your games with graphics powerful video. Just adjust the 3D settings for each game and have all those settings applied automatically each time you play.
Re: Gigabyte Radeon 7970 question
I also believe that you can still tweak core frequency. Also the default voltage of Gigabyte Radeon 7970 will reach the maximum parameter that is suggested by AMD and it is not advisable to overdrive more with it. Most of the Sapphire cards come unlocked and if you can return your Gigabyte for a Sapphire then you will be able to overclock a bit.
