Secondary Drive/ CD Drive not being detected in Dell Dimension 3000.
This is a very recent issue that I have encountered lately in my Dimension 3000. My friend wanted to burn a CD and the CD ROM was just not opening. I would like mention here that I have nit installed or removed any hardware lately and all the cables look fine and are connected at the back. I have not added any new program. The CD ROM file was last used a few days ago and worked nothing less than perfect.

I’ll be more than happy to help out with this issue. But firstly, we need to perform some diagnostic steps that’ll help both of us understand what exactly the issue is.
The first test would be to hit F2 before the PC completely boots. When you hit F2, what do you see under drives? Is your CD drive shown? Reply and let me know what you get.

Thanks for answering! When I hit F2 I did not see anything under drives, the CD drive is not shown. I also checked by right mouse clicking on "my computer” manage option and the CD drive is not there either.

Cool! The next thing I suggest is to open the case, pull out and re-seat the power and data cable connections, then boot again and check the BIOS.
All you need to do is: is unplug the connections to the CD drive, remove it from the place where it is and then simply reinstall it and replug all the connections.

Unfortunately friend, that didn’t work either. What does this mean now? What can be done?

Nothing at all! Your CD Drive is faulty and it’s time for you to replace it. It’s a bit difficult to find a replacement for Dimension 3000 but I guess a detailed Google Search will surely fetch you the desired result.
Find a good CD ROM and install it, that’s the only solution I can think of At the Moment!
