running Intel core i7-2700K at 4.5GHz on Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4
I have a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4 motherboard and recently I purchased the all new Intel Core i7-2700K for overclocking purpose. I have tried many settings in the bios but every attempt is not successful. I have purchased this costly motherboard only because of overclocking purpose. I have run Prime95 as well but most of the time it was also unstable. I guess that I will require some expert suggestions for overclocking on this board with your suggestions. Thanks.

The processor that you have only needs to have 1.4v at load so that it will overcome the Intel's built in safety measures. So, try to set a higher idle so that it will be able to activate LLC or DVID. You should also start with 4.5ghz at stock voltages and attempt to increase Vcore little by little till its stabilize and then use the multi after you are stable.

Also, you shouldnt go for 1.5v because that would be too much high for a 24/7 running computer, so you will have to stay below that. Just try to check out what voltages your CPU needs in the end at a lower overclock. You simply need to check for the right LLC setting to match your Vcore setting in bios. Also, test to see that which setting keeps the Vcore in Windows at load and then use the same to set in the bios.

I am having the same setup and after running IBT 100 running at very high setting with 1.4 vcore @ 4.6ghz and at stable too. But the problem that I was facing was with the temperature that reached upto 85°C. I am using a noctua nh-d14 cooler but still having the temperature issue. I dont know why this cooler is not able to safegaurd atleast 10°C or so, any ideas?
