Is it Safe to overclock Xperia Tablet Z

Sony Xperia Tablet Z is a high end device. It comes loaded with 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8064+MDM9215M Quad Core cpu. And 2G RAM. This is really awesome. Now to get a bit more performance from it will overclocking is safer. Whatever articles I found said that overclocking is risky on portable devices. They can heat fast and face damage. Is there anyone who had tested overclocking on android.

Till today overclocking is not safe on desktop pc and laptop. Excessive heat can damage the internal components easily. And you are asking for portable devices. I will not recommend that. Overclocking requires extreme cooling solution.

There are certain apps available on Google Play which can help you to overclock. But there is no complete solution that it might really overclock. I had not seen anyone experimenting this on Xperia Tablet Z. It is very risky. Overclocking push the processor to work more. Due to which it generate more heat and if it keeps on doing to continuously it can burn completely. So there is a risk of completely destroying your processor. The same is also not counted under warranty. It is necessary that you must go with safe practice here. The tablet is loaded with great hardware config. So why you want to overclock it. This can cause severe damage. Tablets does not has ventilation at all. They completely rely on the back panel for drawing out heat. You might have notice that while playing game the backside gets heated up fast. This is due to the cpu. And at that time keeping it turned off for sometime is good. It would take really long time to finally get overclocking work on any portable device. But if you still want to test out the same you can use SetCPU. This is a android overclocking app available on Google play.

Overclocking on android is different compare to overclocking on pc. There is a huge difference. There is a app on Google Play called as Android Overclock. You can use this one to boost the cpu temperature and see the kind of output you are getting.

As per my experience on this, I found that overclocking will not work on your tablet unless it is rooted and working on custom rom. That is the first stage to get a successful result. You have to root the device and then install a custom rom which supports overclocking. It is not easy to find. On android overclocking can give you average boost only. If games are lagging then you can overclock to get stable output. As per some tester they find overclocking safe on android. I do not know the reason why. Mobile cpu's are much more smaller and weaker compare to a full size desktop. They also operate on very low power. On a desktop pc we work at extreme level. We boot the cpu frequency making a hardware to perform more faster pushing it to the limits. On Android things are very limited. by overclocking you can push the processor to work 20 to 25% more. Or even lower.
