HP Mini 2140 Notebook wont detect external monitor

I have HP Mini 2140 Notebook and I want to connect it to my newly bought Benq GW2250 external monitor. I have tried making the connection using VGA to HDMI cable as my Notebook is having VGA connector and my Benq external monitor is having HDMI connector. For some unknown reason my HP Mini 2140 is not recognizing it. I am trying to use the external monitor with my Notebook for the very first time so let me know if I have to change any setting after making the connection.

As far as I am aware there is no need of changing any settings. You just have to make the connection, once the connection gets established you should see your laptop screen on your external monitor. Since you are not getting it, I will suggest you to first cross check the connection and make sure that it is proper. Just tighten the screws of the connector and see if you get display on your external monitor. If not, then there might be something wrong with the cable and you will have to get a new one.

It’s already new, I have bought it for making the connection yesterday only. There is nothing wrong with the monitor as well. I have already used it after connecting to my system. Don’t know why but I feel there is something wrong with my HP Mini 2140 Notebook, may be its VGA connector has stopped working or it needs so some settings to be tweaked for recognizing the external monitor. Can there be any other possibilities of this issue???

I can’t think of any other possibilities, anyways Benq GW2250 external monitor seems to have HDMI as well as VGA input. So in that case rather than using VGA to HDMI cable why don’t you use VGA TO VGA connector????
I guess you might be using VGA TO VGA connector for connecting the external monitor to your system currently. Since you don’t have any issue with that type of connection, the same connection should work for your HP Mini 2140 as well. So just make VGA TO VGA connection and post back the result that you get.

Hey that worked, I just took unplugged the VGA TO VGA cable from my system and plugged it to my HP Mini 2140 and the external monitor and TADA!! I got the display on Benq GW2250 within seconds. You know what, I was thinking of getting VGA TO VGA connector only, but one of my friends told me that I’ll get better graphics with VGA to HDMI cable and that’s the reason I picked it.
However I still have a doubt, when VGA TO VGA connection is working than what’s wrong with VGA to HDMI connection??? Any idea??

Even I haven’t got an answer for the same. I have come across many people who have run in to such issues while connecting their laptop to their external monitor. Just to share a month ago my cousin had bought a VGA to HDMI cable for connecting his dell laptop to his tv. Both laptop and his TV were having VGA and HDMI connectors. We had tried making the connection using VGA to HDMI cable and had messed up with the settings and connection a couple of hours but we were not able to get display on his TV. The next day he bought a HDMI to HDMI cable and as soon as he made the connection tv started displaying his laptop screen.
