Blackberry Storm 9550 synchronization Error: 0x80040fb3

I have been using the following things now:

• Blackberry Storm 9550
• Windows 7
• BES
• Outlook 2010
• Exchange 2003 server
• BB Desktop Manager 6.1 build 38.

First time the user's ~50 personal contacts get synchronized properly with my computer. After that I tried to synchronize a public contact folder but at this time I got an error 0x80040fb3, midway through synchronization. So I removed the public folder from the BB Desktop Manager and then again tried synchronizing but this time I get "Synchronization could not complete successfully" error. I tried to start over again by completely removing all contacts but this time I get different failure.

When I try to do a research regarding the 0x80040fb3 error, I came to know that it can happen due to a single contact with 2 email entry or no email entry. But I don’t think that it is content-related because I tried it after wiping data. Added few contacts to the Outlook/Exchange contact folder and then tried to synchronize but this time also it eventually fails. The unique thing is if the user is trying to access via VPN connection between the computer and the BES, then synchronization could be slower and this may cause a problem.

There might be several causes for this error or problem and you need to find out yourself what it could be. Few causes are as follows:

• It seems like your contacts in Microsoft Outlook list contain East Asian characters.
• There might be blank email address before a completed email on contact app data. Due to this also an error may occur.
• If the contact data contain a picture, then it may not process properly and due to this it may throw an error. This is same Calendar entries and attendee’s field that cannot be properly processed.

If you are really looking forward to resolve the error, then make sure that you must have following versions of software on your Windows 7 system.

• BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1.0 B38 or later
• BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0.244 or later

In my case it the error was happening due to the wrong image format on the contact list for some contacts. I didn’t know about this thing. So I have converted the image format to JPG format and then applied to the respective contacts. Now it worked and synced properly without any error. However one thing keep in mind that when doing the conversion, resize the images to 90x90pixel.

If you are really looking forward to resolve the problem, follow these procedures. Here is what I did for my phone.
First you have to make a complete backup of the BlackBerry storm.
Now delete all the data and apps by the use of Wipe Handheld option
Now you need to locate the affected contacts in Microsoft Outlook and modify them.
Then go for synchronization and make sure that this time no errors will be appeared. If errors comes again, once again go through all the contacts to make sure that they have been addressed.
At last do a selective restore or custom restore to get back everything apart from a address book.
