I was also of the same concern and I need to ask some questions.
    1. Is there an app in the market that will let me to increase the size of the font?
    2. am I able to change the contrast of the font in adjacent to the white background?
3 I have heard regarding the TapaTalk and will it be able to fix that issue?

Generally , if you need to increase or change the font and need to consider that this all changes are app dependent and as you make some changes and install new apps which tend you to do the possible changes, you are able to do possible changes according to your requirement.

For your device, it has came in latest that you are now with zoom kernels . Even double tap furthermore most prominently font resizing. You can find then all in the settings menu finally. as well i am able to read now what I'm typing along with the text body isn't slingshotting out of view. In addition to this , the cursor placement blue arrow tab thingies are responding properly. But as I found from net that the Market still doesn't permit me to zoom today but it might tomorrow and it's at least readable lastly.
