I use the 2nd generation Apple TV with the latest software installed. I happened to buy a season several weeks ago and yesterday I got this email stating that the latest show was available. But when I check late in the evening it was not in the Purchased folder.
Anyone has any idea, what’s going on?

Apple Purchase users have been falling prey to this issue since quite a some time now. This is ridiculous! All you can try doing in such a situation is to try updating your software. Download and install the latest update available. If that doesn’t work, update iTunes on your PC. It will download the purchased episodes.

Yes! The iTunes update worked. but the apple TV downloads showed no progress. This is extremely unethical on Apple’s part.
What I don’t understand and agree is why should I take this trouble when their policy clearly states:
if you purchased your Season Pass on Apple TV you will automatically receive new episodes if your iTunes Store password has been saved. To manually check for new episodes, select Settings from the main menu, then select Downloads, and Check for Downloads.

I understand your rage against apple and I think you should report this to apple ASAP. Go to this URL and post your complaint.
They’ll definitely do the required. Simply post a complaint with your Order No. they’ll assign an executive to your rescue and he’ll be assisting you till your issue is entirely solved.

How do we find out the order number? Any idea on that regard?

Definitely, You can find your order numbers on your email receipts or else, follow the following steps:
Open iTunes.
Click iTunes Store on the left side of the iTunes window.
If you're not signed in to the store, click Sign In and enter your Apple ID and password.
When the iTunes Store opens, click the button with your account name on it, enter your password, then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Purchase History.
You’ll find your order ID there.
