If you are using Wi-Fi/wireless networks on your laptop then use firewall. Turn on firewall when you are using Wi-Fi/wireless network for better security.
    For turn on Firewall:-
    • Go to “start menu”
    • Select “Control panel”
    • Go to “security center”
    • Select “Windows Firewall”
    • And choose the option “On”
    • Press “Ok”

When you are using public Wi-Fi or wireless network then it is recommended that hide your important files and folders. Before using that network check the privacy statement on their website what type of encryption and decryption they use. If privacy statement is missing then it advisable to you avoid to use that wireless network.

When you are using Wi-Fi wireless network do not enter credit card numbers or passwords. For your safety do not type any sensitive information or any financial information. If at the bottom right corner of the browser window, if there is a padlock icon then only enter sensitive information.

Check the web addresses if it begins with https: then only enter your sensitive information such as passwords, pins etc. the https: stands for secure network. If the web address begins with only http: then it may not be secure. Then avoid typing any sensitive information for your safety.

Disable your wireless connection if you are not accessing the internet, but still laptop is in a Wi-Fi, wireless network area.
If you are using external Wi-Fi card
    • Remove Wi-Fi card from laptop
If you are using internal Wi-Fi card
    • Disable by right click on connection

When you are using Wi-Fi or wireless network then disable the file sharing for your security. If you are using peripherals with your laptop such as printer, scanner etc the disable all the peripherals which is currently not useful for you.
